MSU-IIT NMPC Takes Young Digkilaanon Boys to the First Step of Adolescent Life in the Operation Tuli Program of 2014

Operation Tuli 2014

(A Joint Cooperation by the Gender Committee and the Cooperative Social Responsibility Committee with Support from the Head Office through the COOP CARE andMarketing Department)

Reaching out to the community to serve the purpose of greater good, MSU-IIT NMPC helps young boys step a ladder to manhood – in a painful way that is. Spearheaded by Gender Committee Chairperson Prof. Judith Magnetico and Cooperative Social Responsibility Committee Chairperson Dr. Rhodora Englis, this year’s Operation Tuli Program takes the team to the hill-like plains of Brgy. Digkilaan in a lengthy 16.6 kilometer travel before reaching the destination. Other parts of the team are key staffs of the Marketing Department, COOP CARE, and the medical practitioners headed by the coop’s gatekeeper Dr. Felix Zamoranos.

Upon reaching the place, the team is faced by a crowd of wary young boys in their long shirts- all of whom have glaring gazes of what’s packed for them before the day ends.

All the team members prepared the paraphernalia for the operation. Others have filed up the kids and listed them accordingly to maintain order in the circumcising of the kids. There are approximately 130 young boys who are in the school stage of Digkilaan National High School where the operation will be held but less than half of them will be circumcised as per the decision of the physician whether they are ready for the operation or not.

It took a time for the physician to scrutinize every kid. The official lists of kids who were circumcised that day are 54 young individuals. Evidently, there are a lot of unforgettable memories of screams and screeching sounds during the day as kids went through the once-in-a-lifetime ordeal. Though several of those screams were silenced by ice creams and cupcakes, the Digkilaanons are grateful for a generous act of goodness coming from the cooperative – a testament that’s worth the praise.
